LITTLETON | With two more years left, Tuesday probably wasn’t the last time Grandview’s Morgan Sahm will play in the final group at the Class 5A girls state golf tournament.

The sophomore shot 3-over-par in the opening round at Raccoon Creek G.C. and went into the final round tied with playing partner Jaylee Tait of Columbine

On a tough putting day for the entire field, Sahm saw her score rise by seven shots, which dropped her into a tie for seventh place, though she finished just four shots out of the first-place tie between Rock Canyon’s Michelle Romano and Arapahoe’s Hannah Wood. Romano won the individual championship in a one-hole playoff with Wood, the only player to finish higher than Sahm in the Centennial League standings.

With rounds of 3-over-par 75 and 10-over 82, Sahm shot a total of 157 to come in one stroke lower than she did in the 2013 5A state tournament at Tiara Rado G.C. in Grand Junction and managed to improve by two places.

Led by Sahm, Grandview finished 13th in the field of 16 teams with at least three players qualified. The other Aurora team in the field, Regis Jesuit, captured the 5A state championship.

Junior Caroline O’Donnell shot rounds of 93 and 92 to tie for 50th for the Wolves, while sophomore Emily Jung carded rounds of 97 and 100 to come in 67th.

Rangeview’s Julia Kim made a huge improvement from 2013, as she finished with a scores 20 strokes lower and moved up from 54th place a year ago into a tie for 35th. The three-time state qualifier shot identical rounds of 87.

Cherokee Trail’s Faith Hope made a solid state tournament debut, firing rounds of 89 and 88 to position herself in a tie for 38th in the 84-golfer field.
