2025 AURORA GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL SEASON AT A GLANCE
Teams: Of a total of 73 programs statewide listed by the Colorado High School Activities Association (divided into Classes 5A and 4A based on enrollment), 12 of them will be in Aurora. Nine of the city’s programs will be in the largest classification (5A) — Aurora Central, Cherokee Trail, Eaglecrest, Grandview, Overland, Rangeview, Regis Jesuit, Smoky Hill and Vista PEAK Prep, while the other three — Aurora West College Prep Academy, Gateway and Hinkley — will be in 4A.
Coaches: Aurora Central — Rudy Martinez; Aurora West College Prep Academy — Phil Robinson; Cherokee Trail — Andrew Robertson; Eaglecrest — Duke Williams; Gateway — Nick O’Loughlin; Grandview — Mark Fisher; Hinkley — Rico Henderson; Overland — Olando Mason; Rangeview — Eric Mosley; Regis Jesuit — Terry Ellis; Smoky Hill — Augustine Agyei; Vista PEAK Prep — Marcus Pinillo
Last year: The sport went through a pilot phase before it played its first season sanctioned by the Colorado High School Activities Association in 2024. The Aurora area had two qualifiers for the 20-team Class 5A state tournament in Grandview and Regis Jesuit, which lost to the two teams that made it to the state championship game (inaugural state winner Mountain Vista and runner-up Arvada West) in the opening round. The Wolves and Raiders each won play-in games as the Nos. 15 and 17 seeds, respectively, in the postseason.
Regular season/postseason: The girls flag football regular season begins on Aug. 16 and concludes on Oct. 11, while the pairings for the postseason will be issued Oct. 12. The opening round of the state playoffs takes place Oct. 14-15 at higher seeds, with the winners moving on to Oct. 18 second round and quarterfinal games at the North Area Athletic Complex (4A) and Jeffco and Trailblazer stadiums (5A). Championship games are scheduled for 4 p.m. (4A) and 6:45 p.m. (5A) Oct. 25 at Trailblazer Stadium.
News and notes: Coaching changes have taken place at Gateway (Nick O’Loughlin), Overland (Olando Mason), Regis Jesuit (Terry Ellis) and Vista PEAK Prep (Marcus Pinillo). …Rangeview was the only Aurora team to reach double-digit wins in 2024 with a 10-5 record, but fell just short of making the 20-team postseason field due to strength of schedule. Grandview was the only other local team with a winning record at 9-8.
