Girls Basketball: Regis Jesuit’s Akigbogun pulls down Show MVP award to cap season

DENVER | Regis Jesuit’s Diani Akigbogun will have a hard time topping her junior season on the basketball court.

The star post player helped lead the Raiders to the Class 5A state championship in March, just two days after she was named Colorado’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

Akigbogun capped the season on Saturday afternoon by winning the most valuable player award of the Show girls all-star basketball game at the Pepsi Center. She scored a game-high 14 points and pulled down six rebounds to help lead the Blue Team — which was coached by Grandview’s Josh Ulitzky — to a 59-51 victory over the White Team.

Junior Justine Hall, Akigbogun’s teammate at Regis Jesuit, scored 11 points to help the Blue to victory.

Grandview’s Adaeze Obinnah was also selected, but did not play due to a previously scheduled trip.

Sand Creek’s Mikayla Reese led the White Team with 12 points.
