AURORA | The Rangeview girls basketball had a strong start to the new season, but didn’t go into winter break on the type of performance it had hoped.

Coach La Monte Weddle’s Raiders brought a 6-1 record into Friday night’s home game against Cherry Creek and looked to make some noise against a team ranked No. 10 in the latest Colorado High School Activities Association poll in their last game before winter break.

Instead, Rangeview was held to single digits in all four quarters in its lowest offensive output of the season in a 62-19 loss. The Raiders — who came into the season ranked No. 8 and got off to a fast start by winning the Mountain Vista Tournament — enter break 6-2 with both defeats coming to Centennial League teams in Cherry Creek and Eaglecrest (49-40 on Dec. 7).

Senior Ny’Era West scored six points to lead Rangeview, which also got five from sophomore Danielle Washington.

The Raiders trailed by double figures after one quarter to the Bruins, who added to the lead in each of the subsequent periods to win their third straight game.

Rangeview returns to action Jan. 3 with a 7 p.m. road game at George Washington.
