AURORA | The Grandview girls basketball team finished off an undefeated run through Centennial League play — both regular season and in the Centennial League Challenge —  with a win over Cherry Creek Saturday afternoon.

The top-seeded Wolves used a 25-14 advantage over the middle two periods to offset even opening and closing quarters on their way to a 60-47 victory on their home floor over the second-seeded Bruins, who were last season’s league champions.

Sophomore Ava Chang poured in 26 points, senior Sienna Betts added 20 and senior Deija Roberson chipped in 10 more for Grandview, which extended its winning streak to 14 games and finished the regular season 20-3.

Coach Josh Ulitzky’s team used the win to jump from No. 2 to No. 1 in the Colorado High School Activities Association’s seeding index, which will be used to seed the postseason Sunday.

Grandview’s victory came against Cherry Creek, which sits No. 4 in the seeding index, and gave it a season sweep as it won 54-32 Feb. 12 in Centennial League regular season play.

The Bruins (16-7) came out strong in the opening quarter and had a late lead, but Betts drew a foul while shooting a desperation 3-pointer just before the clock hit zeroes.

The UCLA recruit made all three three throws to push the Wolves in front by two points and they added four points to the lead by halftime as Betts and Chang had 11 points apiece at the break.

Chang added seven more in the third quarter, which saw Grandview bump its lead to 13 points, while the teams played even basketball in the fourth quarter.
