AURORA | The Grandview girls basketball team’s three-peat quest remains alive and well.

The two-time defending Class 5A state champions continued their latest title run as they advanced to the Great 8 with a decisive 69-28 victory over visiting Chaparral Tuesday night.

Seniors Allyah Marlett and Alisha Davis both scored in double figures in their final game on their home floor and four players had 10 or more points for coach Josh Ulitzky’s team, which won its 12th straight playoff contest and made it into the quarterfinals for the fourth straight season.

Sixth-seeded Grandview (21-4) tips off a slate of four Great 8 games on Friday with a 4 p.m. contest against No. 3 Valor Christian (23-2), a 50-41 Sweet 16 winner over 14th-seeded Legend.

In their second lopsided victory of the postseason so far, Marlett led the Wolves with 15 points as she made three 3-pointers to match the output of junior Landri Hudson, who also had three triples on her way to 11. Freshman post player Lauren Betts added 12 points and Davis contributed 10 in the victory.

Chaparral — which knocked 11th-seeded Vista PEAK out of the postseason in the previous round — hung around for a quarter, but got outscored 17-2 in the second quarter and trailed 37-13 at halftime. The deficit surpassed 40 points in the fourth quarter.

Grandview has a rematch with a Valor Christian team it defeated 65-59 in Horizon’s Best In The Nest tournament prior to winter break. A victory could put the Wolves up against a Regis Jesuit team that they defeated in last season’s 5A state final, but lost to earlier in the regular season.
