DENVER | A Centennial League grind between two programs that know each other very well — Grandview and Cherry Creek — came down to a fantastic finish Friday at the Denver Coliseum.
Although the first three quarters between the 11th-seeded Wolves and second-seeded Bruins was filled with turnovers and hard-nosed defensive play, the fourth quarter proved quite dramatic.
Grandview went in front by a point on two free throws from senior Isa Dillehay with 1 minute, 25 seconds, remaining, sophomore Sienna Betts added two free throws and the Wolves survived a potential game-tying 3-pointer from Cherry Creek to win 31-28 and earn a spot in Saturday’s state championship game.
The Wolves await the winner of the semifinal between No. 4 Monarch and No. 8 Arapahoe.
