AURORA | With another thorough victory Tuesday, the Regis Jesuit girls basketball team earned a trip to play at the site of its most devastating loss.

The second-seeded Raiders emphatically punched their ticket to play a Class 5A Great 8 contest Friday at the Denver Coliseum — where they lost to Grandview in last season’s state final — with a 72-15 victory Tuesday night in a well-attended Sweet 16 game in the school’s Boys Division gym.

Senior Fran Belibi’s breakaway dunk early in the fourth quarter put the exclamation mark for coach Carl Mattei’s team, which advanced to the Great 8 for the third straight season and ninth time in the past 11 campaigns.

Second-seeded Regis Jesuit (22-3) is set to oppose No. 7 Horizon (21-4) — a 58-40 winner over No. 10 Ralston Valley — in a 7 p.m. contest. The Raiders also moved one step closer to a possible rematch with the Wolves as the teams could face off again in the semifinals if each post Great 8 wins.

Against Denver East, Regis Jesuit scored 47 straight points at one point as the Angels were shut out in the second quarter and scored just one basket in the third period.

Junior Jada Moore poured in a game-high 22 points, while sophomore Avery VanSickle made four 3-pointers on her way to 18 points, and seniors Belibi and Sidney Weigand went for 14 and 12 points, respectively.
