BOULDER | It wasn’t pretty by their own lofty standards, but the Regis Jesuit girls basketball team will take a ticket to the Class 5A state championship game nonetheless.
The top-seeded Raiders struggled with their shot, but played their trademark defense and eventually pulled away on their way to a 58-35 victory over second-seeded Poudre at the Coors Events Center.
Senior Justine Hall scored 16 points, senior Anna Ptasinski added 12 and senior Neffie Lockley 10 as Regis Jesuit improved to 25-2. The Raiders will play for a second consecutive 5A state championship when they take on either Grandview or Fossil Ridge in the 5A state title game at 3 p.m. Saturday.
It certainly wasn’t a run-away early. Though Regis Jesuit’s lead got as large as 13 points early in the second quarter, a 7-2 Poudre burst to end the period made it an eight-point margin at halftime.
The Raiders limited the Impalas to just three points in the third quarter when they got some separation and finished off the victory, though Poudre’s Myanne Hamm scored 16 of her game-high 21 points in the period.
