Girls Basketball: Grandview Cunningham, Halbleib and Regis Jesuit’s Lidge picked for CCGS 5A All-State game

AURORA | A trio of city girls basketball players have another game coming, as they’ve been selected to play in Sunday’s Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports Class 5A All-State game.

Grandview’s Katie Cunningham and Natalie Halbleib and Kelsi Lidge of two-time 5A state champion Regis Jesuit earned the nod among 16 top seniors selected from around the state for the CCGS game, scheduled for 3 p.m. at Arvada West High School.

All three Aurora players — who all received first team all-league honors — were on teams that advanced to the Final Four in Boulder and will play together on the Red Team roster.

Cunningham, who averaged 8.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.4 steals per game for the Centennial League champion Wolves, has also been selected to play in The Show all-star game sponsored by the Denver Nuggets on April 12 at the Pepsi Center. Halbleib averaged 13.3 points per game for Grandview (24-3), while Lidge scored 6.4 points and pulled down 5.7 rebounds per contest for Regis Jesuit (26-2).

Three other players from teams that appeared in the 5A Final Four — Fossil Ridge, which defeated Grandview and lost to Regis Jesuit in the state championship game March 15 and Poudre, which fell to the Raiders in the semifinals — are scheduled to play as well.

Savannah Smith is set to represent Fossil Ridge, while Myanne Hamm and Ashley McDaniel of Poudre also earned selections.

Smith and Hamm will play with Cunningham in The Show, which also features three of Lidge’s Regis Jesuit teammates in Diani Akigbogun, Justine Hall and Anna Ptasinski.
