AURORA | The Colorado High School Activities Association announced the 2012 class for induction into the CHSAA Hall of Fame Tuesday, and the seven-member class includes one prominent former Aurora prep athlete.
Rhonda Blanford-Green starred as a hurdler at Aurora Central High School in the early 1980s and went on to become an All-American at the University of Nebraska. She qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials in 1984 and 1988 and fell just short of making the Summer Games in 1984.
Blanford-Green went on to work for Aurora-based CHSAA as an assistant and associate commissioner for 16 years and now serves as the Executive Director of the Nebraska School Activities Association.
Former George Washington basketball star and current Los Angeles Clippers guard Chauncey Billups is also in CHSAA’s 24th all-time induction class, along with former coaches Joe Strain (Denver Public Schools), Jim Dorsey (Sheridan), Pam Fagerlund (Flagler) and Duane Lewis (Burlington), plus public address announcer Frank Palmeri (Jefferson County).
The Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Red Lion Hotel Denver Southeast (I-225 and Parker Road) in Aurora.
