AURORA | While six city teams qualified for the 32-team Class 5A state football playoffs, three others will finish the season with non-playoff Week 10 contests.
Leading the way is Hinkley, which started the season 3-1, but found the going tough in the South Metro League and lost five straight games to finish the regular season 3-6. The Thunderbirds — a playoff team last season — will play host to Legend (2-7) in Week 10.
Smoky Hill, which fired head coach Justin Hoffman on the eve of practice and finished 2-7 under an interim coaching staff, has a road date with 2-7 Palmer in its Week 10 contest.
Coach Shane Ward took over Gateway just a month before the season and finished 0-9. The Olys play host to another winless team, Thornton, in Week 10.
