AURORA | Smoky Hill’s season-long scoring drought came to an end in a big way Friday night against Gateway.

The Buffaloes had been shut out twice and tallied just seven points over their last 12 quarters of football, but found the end zone seven times at Aurora Public Schools Stadium on their way to a 48-14 victory.

Sophomore quarterback Shea Wyatt threw two touchdown passes and rushed for two scores as Smoky Hill (1-4 overall, 1-1 in South Metro League) posted its first victory since the final game of the 2013 season and ruined the homecoming for Gateway (0-4, 0-2).

Dante Lewis and Malik Seals Pompey caught touchdown passes and Robert Woods and Josiah Salas rushed for scores for the Buffs, who scored 28 straight points between the first quarter and second quarter after falling behind 7-0.

Junior quarterback Rashaud Beauford accounted for both touchdowns for coach Shane Ward’s Gateway team that outgained Smoky Hill in total yardage, but turned the ball over four times in defeat.

Smoky Hill travels to play Grand Junction (1-4, 0-2) at 7 p.m. Sept. 26, while Gateway takes on Broomfield (2-2) at 2 p.m. Sept. 27
