AURORA | Shaking off a Zero Week loss, the Hinkley football team evened its record at 1-1 with a one-point victory over Far Northeast Warriors Friday night at Aurora Public Schools Stadium.
Malcom Kates’ 1-yard touchdown run and Teaggan Ilela’s extra point just four seconds into the fourth quarter held up as coach Robert O’Brien’s Thunderbirds prevailed with a 21-20 win.
Ramzee Howard threw for 139 yards and a touchdown to Josh Hanible and Kenneth Powell rushed for a score to account for the points for Hinkley, which downed the Warriors (formerly Montbello) for a second straight season.
Powell rushed for 73 yards and Eman McNeal caught four passes for 64 yards.
The Thunderbirds play host to Westminster — a 44-6 winner over Rangeview — at noon Sept. 12.
