AURORA | If the season ended today, eight city football teams would qualify for the Class 5A state playoffs.

The Colorado High School Activities Association released the first set of wild card points standings on Monday, which showed an early look at the postseason picture with three weeks left in the regular season.

The top 32 teams in the final wild card standings qualify for the 5A playoffs.

With the best record among Aurora teams at 5-1, Regis Jesuit sits in the No. 6 spot with 95 points, followed by Cherokee Trail (4-2), which sits 14th with 88 points in the wake of a 28-27 loss to Cherry Creek on Friday night.

Grandview (4-2) and Eaglecrest (4-2) sit No. 17 and No. 19, respectively, just in front of the Aurora trio of Gateway (4-2), Rangeview (3-2), and Overland (3-3), which hold the Nos. 21-23 positions.

Much-improved Hinkley (3-3) is intent on a postseason berth and currently sits 31st in the field with 74.667 points.

In the 3A ranks, Vista PEAK (2-4) has accrued 58.5 points and sits at No. 26. Sixteen teams make the 3A postseason.
