AURORA | Aggressiveness is Claire Stemper’s calling card as a goalie and she showed it repeatedly Wednesday.

The Regis Jesuit junior charged out of her net time-after-time to thwart Grandview scoring chances with a variety of kicks and deflections, which ultimately led to a 2-0 shutout in the Raiders’ favor after the non-league field hockey battle of Aurora teams at Legacy Stadium.

Stemper made 10 saves and recorded her second shutout in five games this season for coach Spencer Wagner’s team, which improved to 2-3 as a difficult opening stretch to the season continued. Abby Wist scored Regis Jesuit’s first goal in the first half and Lindsey Reich added some insurance in the second half.

Coach Chris Strater’s Grandview team — playing the second game of a back-to-back after a 6-0 loss to powerhouse Colorado Academy on Tuesday — had chances on penalty corner opportunities in the second half, but couldn’t get one past Stemper and her strong defense.

The Wolves dropped to 3-3 after a 3-0 start.
