The first sport of the 2019 fall prep athletic season begins on Aug. 5, when boys golfers in Aurora and across Colorado are allowed to begin tryouts and practice by the Colorado High School Activities Association.

Teams won’t have to wait long to play, as tournaments are allowed to begin Aug. 8.

Six of the 10 players from Aurora programs who qualified for last season’s Class 5A state tournament —Regis Jesuit’s Bo Wardynski, Cherokee Trail’s Beam Boonta, Mason Bernard and Andrew Jang and Grandview’s Alex Chitkoksoong and Kenny VanWormer — are expected to return.

The remainder of fall prep sports (football, girls volleyball, softball, boys soccer, boys and girls cross country, boys tennis, field hockey and gymnastics) wait until Aug. 12 to begin official practice, with softball and boys tennis set to play Aug. 15 and everything save football (Aug. 29) set for Aug. 22.
