AURORA | The Centennial League Championship girls cross country race was top-heavy with runners from Cherry Creek and Arapahoe Oct. 5 at the Aurora Sports Park, but a pair of local runners earned top-10 finishes.

Cherokee Trail freshman Jade McDaniel and Grandview senior Summer Abeyta followed a string of six Bruins and two Warriors across the finish line to take ninth and 10th place, respectively.

McDaniel’s time of 20 minutes, 28.3 seconds, and Abeyta’s 20:37 landed them both all-league second team honors, which also went to Abeyta’s senior teammate Julia Pace (who placed 12th in 21:02.1) and Eaglecrest freshman Jenna Winn, who came in 13th in a time of 21:06.9.

Grandview scored 95 points to take third with a nine-point margin over Cherokee Trail with Eaglecrest in fifth and Smoky Hill in seventh. Host Overland did not have enough finishers to register a team score.

Cherry Creek sophomore Emily Cohen cruised to the individual Centennial League title with a time of 17:52.8 and helped lead the Bruins to the team crown as well with a total of 22 points. Arapahoe finished second with a score of 53.

The Centennial League Championship meet moved back to the Aurora Sports Park after it has recently been run at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds.
