AURORA | Through one race of the new season, all Jenna Winn does is win.

The Eaglecrest sophomore started the season in style Thursday at the Aurora Sports Park, as she handily claimed the girls title at the Aurora City Championship cross country meet.

In conditions that rapidly deteriorated from start to finish of the race, Winn took control just before the midway point and brought home the victory with a time of 21 minutes, 2.5 seconds. Winn became the Raptors’ first city champion on the girls side in nearly a decade, as the last winner came in 2015 in Janine Taurchini.

In a race that featured only racers from four city programs — teams from Eaglecrest, Grandview, Rangeview and an individual from Aurora Central — Winn’s finish, coupled with a third-place result for sophomore Mia Silva and a sixth-place for Jenna Hallman, gave the Raptors enough to hold off the Wolves for the team championship.

Eaglecrest finished with a score of 29 points to win its first Aurora City Championship girls title since 2001 and only its second of all-time.

A close second was Grandview — the 2023 city girls team champion — which had three of the top five finishers and scored 36 points. Sophomore Emme Hensler grabbed second place and was followed by teammates Lillian Carll in fourth and Paige Jasinowski in fifth.

Rangeview sophomore Aiden Schumacher secured the last All-City first team spot with a seventh-place finish with a time of 22:49.9.
