The Grandview girls cross country team won the Windjammer Invitational hosted by Englewood High School Saturday and the Wolves were again paced by junior Brie Oakley.

The Wolves’ standout crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 23 seconds, to top the 111-runner field, while freshman Kaitlyn Mercer, sophomore Erin Ellington and senior Melanie Jenkins finished 12th-14th, respectively, as the Wolves scored 57 points to finish well in front of runner-up Arapahoe (83).

Led by senior Janine Taurchini’s third-place finish, Eaglecrest managed a third-place finish among the 15 scoring teams with a total of 99, while Overland’s score of 376 put it 13th. Junior Mariah Gordon boosted the Raptors with a 19th-place finish.

Another significant result for Grandview came in the junior varsity girls race, as sophomore Peyton Dailey — the Wolves’ top runner last season who finished 23rd at the 5A state meet — won it in a time of 21:05. It was just the second race of the season for Dailey, who finished 17th at the Castle View SaberCat Invitational on Oct. 3 after missing most of the season due to injury.

In the Windjammer boys race, Grandview also posted the best team finish among three Aurora teams as the Wolves scored 94 points to come in behind Arapahoe.

Ben Ehrhard paced Grandview with his ninth-place finish, followed closely by Brian Burris in 13th and Colin Armstrong in 18th.

Eaglecrest sophomore Mason Brown finished a city-best third individually in a time of 16:31 and helped the Raptors to a seventh-place result among 17 scoring teams, while Julian Lang posted a 19th-place finish as the top result for an Overland team that came in 10th.

All three schools next head to the Aurora Sports Park for the Centennial League Championship meet on Oct. 15.
