AURORA | The flu took several Cherokee Trail wrestlers out of the lineup for Thursday night’s Centennial League dual meet at Grandview, but the Cougars had enough strength to hold on against their fierce rivals.

Senior 126-pounder Tim Constant broke a tie with a pin and gave Cherokee Trail the lead for good and the Cougars survived some drama in the final two matches for a 37-34 league victory over the Wolves, who celebrated senior night.

Harley Korte (152 pounds), Diego Rogel (170) and Trent Rogers (182) also won by fall for Cherokee Trail, which made up for the absence of standout senior Bruno Nicoletti — currently ranked No. 3 in Class 5A at 132 pounds — and improved to 3-1 in Centennial League action.

Grandview got a pin from 138-pounder Seth Brown to pull within six points going into the final match, but Kerby Colgan was unable to get the needed pin of Cherokee Trail’s Michael Thelen. Colgan won a 5-4 decision, however, to make the final margin three points.

Mitchel Smith at 220 pounds got the other pin for the Wolves.
