AURORA | One of the four Class 5A boys wrestling regional tournaments will be contested in Aurora as the Colorado High School Activities Association revealed locations for the state-qualifying tournaments set for March 5-6.

Cherokee Trail High School — which hosted a regional last year as well and has done so on multiple occasions in the past — will be the site of the 5A Region 2 tournament, joining Pomona (Region 1), Doherty (Region 3) and Brighton (Region 4) as host venues.

The first seven of the 14 weight classes in boys wrestling — 106 pounds, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138 and 145 — will compete March 5, followed by the remaining seven weight classes on March 6. Two wrestlers from each weight class will advance to the March 12-13 state tournament in Pueblo.

The Region 2 field has several Aurora programs involved, as the host Cougars will be joined by Grandview, Rangeview, Smoky Hill and Hinkley in a field that also includes Ponderosa, ThunderRidge, Fossil Ridge, Chaparral, Castle View, Legend, Valor Christian and Ralston Valley. Rangeview and Smoky Hill also wrestled in Cherokee Trail’s regional last year.

Regis Jesuit and Overland will head to Doherty in Colorado Springs for the Region 3 tournament, while Aurora Central and Eaglecrest drew the Region 4 tournament in Brighton.

Aurora’s lone 4A program, Vista PEAK, is set for the Region 4 tournament at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs.
