CENTENNIAL | The libero of the Eaglecrest boys volleyball team needed to get to a band concert, so his teammates did their best to get finished playing as soon as possible Thursday night in the championship semifinals of the Centennial League Challenge.

The second-seeded Raptors faced a determined foe, however, in third-seeded Grandview, which was on a quest to defend its league title from last season.

The Wolves pushed Eaglecrest to the brink on several occasions, but coach Chad Bond’s team prevailed 25-21, 25-21, 28-26 to earn a spot in Saturday’s championship match. The Raptors will get a chance to play top-seeded Littleton Public Schools in an 11:30 a.m. match for the league crown.

Senior Jackson Shaw racked up 10 kills and 15 digs — while playing outstanding defense in the third set — senior Ashton Bond added eight kills and sophomore Will George seven to go with 12 assists for Eaglecrest (19-2), which gets the chance to avenge a five-set loss to Littleton Public Schools April 1.

Coach Scott Nugent’s Grandview (16-5) team will return to its home floor Saturday at 10:30 a.m. to play fourth-seeded Valor Christian for third place.

Following the Centennial League Challenge final, Eaglecrest will finish the regular season with an April 28 road match against Mountain Vista.
