GREENWOOD VILLAGE | Payback felt especially sweet for the Eaglecrest boys volleyball team Thursday night.

The Raptors had vivid memories of their first meeting with Cherry Creek on March 24 when the Bruins came into The Nest and swept them on their home court.

Eaglecrest returned the favor with a rousing 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 victory over Cherry Creek, which came in on a 13-match winning streak.

Senior Alfred Maiava and junior Ayden Shaw racked up 10 kills apiece, while senior Ikechukwu Onwuegbu added eight to go with six blocks as coach Chad Bond’s Raptors played well in all phases on their way to improving to 11-3 overall and 4-3 in Centennial League play.

Eaglecrest had dropped its previous match in five sets to Valor Christian when it couldn’t hold a 2-0 lead, but refocused and finished against Cherry Creek.

Junior libero Dennis Ancheta’s ace off the tape found the floor to end the final game.

The Raptors are in the midst of a very busy stretch, as they turn right around to face Littleton on Friday, then have potentially a handful of matches on Saturday at the Douglas County Tournament.

Eaglecrest has another big match ahead April 21 with a home match against Cherokee Trail and concludes the regular season on April 26 at Overland.
