AURORA | The Regis Jesuit boys tennis team was a buzzsaw on its home courts with three singles and four doubles championships earned Thursday.

The Raiders had the top seed in all seven brackets in the Class 5A Region 2 tournament and took them all the way through with victories to earn spots in the Oct. 15-17 5A individual state tournament at the Denver Tennis Park.

Coach Laura Jones’ Regis Jesuit team — which had finalists in all seven positions and won six of them last season — did not have a dropped set among 14 matches played.

Senior Alec Rodriguez-Fields earned the chance to go after his third consecutive 5A state championship at No. 1 singles with a two tidy victories, including a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Rocky Mountain’s Blake Livengood in the final.

Junior Marcus Magno played two dominant matches at No. 2 singles, as he didn’t drop a single game to either Maxwell Dale of Rocky Mountain (in the semifinals) or Chaparral’s Paxton Taylor (in the finals) en route to his first 5A state tournament berth. Magno won the 4A No. 3 singles state title in 2024, but sat out last season after he transferred.

Sophomore Reis Cherveny — a doubles state champion last season — moved up to No. 3 singles this season for Regis Jesuit and will return to the state tournament at his new position with two decisive victories, including a 6-2, 6-0 win over third-seeded John Reilly of Chaparral in the finals.

The No. 1 doubles teams of senior Edward Samuelson and junior Finn Carolan rolled past William Brandon and Landon Taylor of Chaparral 6-2, 6-21 in the finals to punch their ticket to the state tournament.

Two opponents took only one game apiece off the No. 2 doubles team of senior Koops Lord and junior Will Larkin, who claimed the regional title with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over second-seeded Tanner Keegan and Kellan Rosenfels of Broomfield.

Senior Beckett Martorella and sophomore Daniel Hickey dispatched Broomfield’s Tyson Becker and Memphis Mackley 6-1, 6-1 in the championship match at No. 3 doubles, while senior Connor Hickey and sophomore Sam Meyer won the No. 4 doubles final — over Rocky Mountain’s Dean Crossan and Luke Stewart — by the exact same score.

Draws for the 5A individual state tournament will be issued Oct. 12 by the Colorado High School Activities Association.
