GREENWOOD VILLAGE | The Regis Jesuit boys swim team tuned up for the upcoming league championship and state meet in a few weeks with a second-place showing in a quality field at the John Strain Memorial Invitational Saturday.

The Raiders accrued 835.5 points to finish comfortably behind only host Cherry Creek — which earned 1,088.5 — at the top of a 12-team field that also included Aurora programs from Grandview, Cherokee Trail and Overland.

Senior Chief Greene-Cockriel dominated the championship final of the 200 yard freestyle to win the only event championship for coach Nick Frasersmith’s Regis Jesuit team, which also finished second behind the Bruins at the meet last season, but went on to win the Class 5A state championship.

Greene-Cockriel touched the wall in a time of 1 minute, 43.28 seconds, to finish more than three seconds in front of runner-up Jack Devincenzi of Fort Collins in the 200 freestyle, which saw teammates AJ Dugan and Nathaniel Spencer finish fourth and eighth, respectively, in a strong opening push for the Raiders.

Senior Hennig Colsman finished as the runner-up in the 50 yard freestyle, junior Reid Magner took second in the 500 yard freestyle and the all-senior 200 yard freestyle relay team of Greene-Cockriel, Colsman, Cruze Bailey and Owen Mulligan also came in second among other top results for the Raiders.
