THORNTON | The Regis Jesuit boys swim team won the annual Dick Rush Coaches Invitational by more than 100 points March 17 at the Veterans’ Memorial Aquatic Center.

Coach Nick Frasersmith’s Raiders won four events on their way to 419 points, well in front of the 311 of runner-up Cherry Creek. Smoky Hill finished fifth, Cherokee Trail 13th, Grandview 14th and the Aurora Public Schools co-op team 21st.

Senior Elijah Warren won the 100 yard breaststroke by more than two seconds and also swam legs of the winning 200 yard medley and 400 yard freestyle relay teams, while freshman diver Quinn Henninger also won individually for Regis Jesuit.

Senior Ty Coen swam on two winning relay teams, while Brooks Hauge, Will Kerscher, Sean Carr and Sam Jones also contributed to relay victories.

Smoky Hill senior Tylen Phillips posted the only other win for Aurora teams with his victory in the 100 yard backstroke. Phillips — who helped the Buffaloes to a fifth-place team showing — also received the Hoyt Brawner Award as Colorado’s top senior swimmer/scholar/citizen.

Junior Cobi Wood of Grandview posted a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle to lead the way for the Wolves, while sophomore Jason McMeechan’s fifth-place result in the 200 yard individual medley paced Cherokee Trail.

David Griffith (Gateway) earned most of the points for the APS co-op team with his fifth-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle.
