The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) issued its list of Academic All-Americans Wednesday and the nation-wide group of prep student athletes included a handful of Grandview High School boys swimmers.
NISCA Academic All-Americans must be graduating seniors and lettered that season with a high school program (in swimming, diving or water polo), while they also must have a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.750 on a 4 point scale or 93.7500% of the grade scale their school uses for 7 semesters/11 trimesters.
Five of the 20 Colorado boys swimmers who applied and met the criteria hailed from coach Dan Berve’s Grandview team, which finished ninth in the Class 5A boys state swim meet. Jacob Aldrich, Parker Gust, William Schimberg, Maksim Shiling and Andrew Wylie all won the honors for the Wolves.
For Schimberg, it was the second NISCA accolade he has received, as he also made the All-American swimming list as part of the Wolves’ 200 yard medley relay that also included his sophomore brother, Oliver, along with fellow senior Matthew Scicchitano and junior Evan Higgins. That group finished as the 46th-fastest relay in the country (see story, here).
Boys swimmers from Arapahoe, Broomfield, Discovery Canyon, Fossil Ridge, Highlands Ranch, Legacy, Mountain Vista and Windsor also received Academic All-American honors.
