LITTLETON | A remarkable day for the Smoky Hill boys swim team at the Centennial “A” League Championship meet saw the Buffaloes win three events and take third in a talented field.
Senior Devin Bellamy set a Centennial League record on the diving board with his score of 605.70 points — taking down the mark of former Smoky Hill star Karo Isajan, a score of 576.50 set in 2003 — and also established an Arapahoe pool record in the process.
In addition, senior Aidan Mercer claimed the league title in the 100 yard butterfly and sophomore Tylen Phillips (like Bellamy an Eaglecrest student competing with Smoky Hill) took the 100 backstroke for coach Scott Cohen’s Buffaloes, who racked up 833.50 points to finish third behind Cherry Creek (986) and Arapahoe (923.50).
Grandview’s 502 points came aided by the 50 yard freestyle championship of senior Robin Kuebler, who also finished a close second in the 100 free, plus freshman Cobi Wood’s two top-four performances.
Diver Eric Lammon paced fourth-place Cherokee Trail with his fourth-place finish, while Sean Kelly’s 15th place result in the 50 freestyle topped seventh-place Overland’s league meet.
