COMMERCE CITY | The suspense will continue for another two days, as weather postponed the Class 5A boys soccer state championship to Monday.
Fourth-seeded Smoky Hill and No. 6 Boulder were ready to play for the state title on Saturday afternoon, but a driving snowstorm at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park made the field unplayable and forced Colorado High School Activities Association officials to reschedule the game.
The Buffaloes and Panthers are scheduled to take the field at 6 p.m. Monday in the home stadium of the Colorado Rapids.
Smoky Hill is back in the state championship game for the first time since 2007, when the Buffaloes won their third 5A state crown in a four-year span. On the other side, Boulder plays in the 5A final for the first time.
