AURORA | East Metro Athletic Conference boys soccer doesn’t get much respect in general, but it’s hard to ignore what Rangeview is doing in 2013.

The Raiders rallied past Eaglecrest for a 3-2 double overtime victory on Saturday to improve to a perfect 9-0 and on Monday, coach Vic Strouse’s team received the No. 1 spot when the new Class 5A coaches/media poll came out.

Three of Rangeview’s past four victories have come in overtime and the Raiders — who jumped up from fourth in last week’s poll — are now the only 5A team in the state that is unbeaten and untied.

Rangeview received 126 points, one more than surging Grandview, which sits at 8-1 after an impressive 4-1 road victory over 4A second-ranked Broomfield on Saturday.

Coach Brian Wood’s Wolves — who posted a 4-1 victory over previously top-ranked Cherry Creek earlier in the week — jumped up from No. 5 last week.

Smoky Hill suffered a 1-0 loss to Cherokee Trail in Centennial League play last week, which dropped coach Kersten Mullan’s 8-2 team from the No. 3 spot in the ranks to eighth, just ahead of 8-1 Aurora Central — which dealt the Buffaloes their other defeat — in ninth.

Cherokee Trail, co-leader in the Centennial League standings along with Grandview, received 12 points, putting coach Mazen Kayali’s group three points out of the 10th spot in the rankings occupied by Highlands Ranch. Class 5A Boys Soccer Poll
