Boys Soccer: Fortunate Grandview finds way past Cherry Creek for big Centennial League win

AURORA | Pretty goals were there to be had for the Grandview boys soccer team, but a couple of ugly ones ended up doing the trick for the Wolves Tuesday.

Trailing Cherry Creek by a goal late in the second half at Legacy Stadium, coach Brian Wood’s Grandview team got a fortunate equalizer in the closing minutes when junior Nick House’s service ended up in the back of the net to force overtime.

In the second extra 10-minute session, senior David Kim ran onto a perfect low pass from Ian Cerro and managed to just get a foot on it before a collision with the Bruins’ goalkeeper, with both watching the ball roll into the net to give Grandview an improbable 2-1 Centennial League victory.

The Wolves, who rebounded from a 2-1 loss at Arapahoe Sept. 18, improved to 6-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Score by halves:

Cherry Creek  0  1  0  0 — 1

Grandview      0  1  0  1 — 2

Grandview goals: Nick House, David Kim (game-winner); Grandview assist: Ian Cerro
