AURORA | The golden goal finally went against the Rangeview boys soccer team.
Coming into the Class 5A boys state soccer tournament, the unbeaten Raiders had five sudden death overtime victories and they added another in the first round to stave off an upset bid from Regis Jesuit.
Nineteenth-seeded Denver East beat third-seeded Rangeview to the punch in overtime in Wednesday’s second round state matchup at Aurora Public Schools Stadium, as Harald Saeterdal snuck a shot under the crossbar to give the Angels a 2-1 upset victory.
Denver East (9-5-3) advanced to play Liberty, a 2-1 winner over Poudre, in the 5A quarterfinals.
Coach Vic Strouse’s Rangeview team — which got its lone goal in the first half from senior Jose Martinez, who had the game-winner in the previous game — suffered its loss of the season and finished 16-1. The Raiders lost in the second round of the playoffs for the third straight season.
