AURORA | Smoky Hill’s Blake Foerster wasn’t thrilled with is performance in Wednesday night’s Centennial League boys lacrosse clash with Cherokee Trail, but he had a pretty good game by most standards.

The junior attackman streaked in and netted his fifth goal of the game in the opening minute of sudden death overtime, lifting the Buffaloes to a dramatic 12-11 victory over the Cougars at Legacy Stadium.

Foerster scored five goals and dished out three assists, Blake Spencer scored three times and Beau Lansdown, Davis Smestad, Jackson Ross and Tanner Mattern also found the back of the net for Smoky Hill, which improved to 3-1 on the season with a second straight late victory.

The Buffaloes — who beat Monarch by the identical score in its previous game — paid back Cherokee Trail for a one-goal loss last season.

Freshman Cooper Snowbarger and senior Jared Rosdal scored three goals apiece to lead the shorthanded Cougars (1-3), while senior Parker Miller and freshman Keenan Moffitt added a pair each.

Snowbarger netted a goal with 2:07 remaining in regulation to tie the score at 11-11 and eventually send it to overtime.

Next up for Smoky Hill is a 4:30 p.m. Friday home contest against Eaglecrest in a game that will decide custody of the Hammer traveling trophy. The Buffaloes have retained the painted sledgehammer for six straight seasons.

Cherokee Trail is set to take on Arapahoe at 7 p.m. Friday at Littleton Public Schools Stadium.
