AURORA | It took more than just Ryan Ball and Logan Stelzner for Regis Jesuit to beat Cherokee Trail Tuesday evening, but at times it sure didn’t seem like it.
The Raiders snapped a three-game losing streak with an emphatic 17-2 triumph over the Cougars in a second round state boys lacrosse playoff contest at Lou Kellogg Stadium, sparked by a 6-goal, 1-assist performance from Ball and three goals and seven assists from Stelzner.
The twosome combined for six goals themselves and six other Regis Jesuit players had at least one goal as the Raiders cruised into the May 12 quarterfinals, which will be on their home field. Regis Jesuit will play Kent Denver at a time to be determined. Cherokee Trail’s season came to an end in the second round of the playoffs for the second straight season, but the Cougars still finished with a school-record 13 victories.
The Cougars, who beat Littleton 13-9 in the first round, got goals from Dylan Duresky and Sterling Huff.
