AURORA | The matchup that seemed destined from the start of the Class 5A boys lacrosse state playoffs is now a reality.
Second-seeded Regis Jesuit joined top-seeded Cherry Creek in Friday’s 7:30 p.m. state championship game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High with an 11-4 victory in Wednesday night’s semifinals at Legacy Stadium.
Coach Jim Soran’s team trailed by two goals after one period against the upstart Golden Eagles, but scored seven straight between the second and third periods to take control of the contest. Goalie Brett Quartuccio and the Regis Jesuit defense had plenty to work with as they finished off the game to create a rematch of last season’s championship game, won on the same field by the Raiders.
Cherry Creek posted an 8-4 win over Regis Jesuit when the teams met during the regular season.
