DENVER | The Regis Jesuit boys lacrosse team successfully rid itself of a bad memory Wednesday night and earned a shot at the Class 5A state championship.

The Raiders lost a lopsided 13-5 contest to Arapahoe in the 2013 5A semifinals at All-City Stadium, but returned to the same venue a year later with a much different result.

Junior midfielder Chet Dunstan scored five goals — including two at a pivotal stage of the fourth quarter — and Regis Jesuit prevailed 10-7 in a tightly-playing contest that sent it on to Saturday’s 5A state championship game.

Coach Jim Soran’s second-seeded Raiders (17-1) square off with No. 1 Cherry Creek — the only team to beat them this season — at 4:30 p.m. at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

Regis Jesuit is back in the 5A state final for the first time since 2011, when it beat Kent Denver, while Cherry Creek is in the title game for the third straight season. The Bruins lost to Arapahoe in each of the past two finals.

The Raiders finished the season 2-0 against the Warriors, following up a 16-8 victory in the regular season on April 5 with the semifinal win in which they never trailed.

Senior Trevor Thomas’ late third-period goal turned out to be the game-winner for Regis Jesuit, while junior Truett Davis tallied twice and junior Chase Konkel scored once.
