AURORA | The Colorado fall prep sports season begins as usual with boys golf, which is allowed to practice and conduct tryouts Monday.

Even last year’s prep calendar that was altered significantly by the Colorado High School Activities Association due to the coronavirus pandemic started with boys golf and the more traditional calendar currently planned for 2021-22 does so as well.

Boys golf has three days of practice ahead before competition is allowed to begin on Thursday. The season is scheduled to conclude with regionals on Sept. 21-25, followed by state tournaments Oct. 4-5 (3A at Spring Valley G.C. in Elizabeth, 4A at City Park G.C. in Denver, 5A at Colorado Springs Country Club).

Four of Aurora’s nine Class 5A and 4A boys state golf qualifiers last season were underclassmen in Regis Jesuit senior-to-be Liam Wood, Grandview senior-to-be Kenny VanWormer and Vista PEAK senior-to-be Dawson Thulin along with Eaglecrest junior-to-be Andrew White.

The remainder of fall sports (football, girls volleyball, boys soccer, softball, cross country, boys tennis, field hockey, gymnastics and Unified Bowling) begin Aug. 9. Regular season competition for softball and boys tennis begins Aug. 12 and the rest on Aug. 19.
