AURORA | The Regis Jesuit boys golf team captured its second straight Continental League tournament with a two-stroke victory Tuesday at Meadow Hills G.C.
Senior Trenton Schultz shot 2-over-par 72 to tie for top honors, senior Teddy Hummel finished a shot back in a tie for third and senior Ryan Occhionero’s 74 put him seventh, which gave the Raiders enough to top Castle View.
Schultz made two birdies on the front side on consecutive holes and made the turn at 1-under, but made bogey three times on the back nine — two on par 3s — to bring him in with the same score as Castle View’s Casey Jacobsen.
Hummel was in contention for the top individual spot at 1-over through 15 holes until he bogied No. 16 and No. 17, while Occhionero made his third birdie of the day on his final hole to bounce back from a double bogey and finish two strokes off the pace.
Sophomore Cole Dewey’s 80 gave Regis Jesuit its last score.
The Raiders finished second in the league opener shortened to nine holes by weather, then won by 10 strokes in the tournament at The Pinery. The fourth Continental League tournament is scheduled for 11 a.m. Aug. 25 at Black Bear G.C.
