JALISCO, MEXICO | The four-player team representing Colorado had its toughest round of the three-day boys Junior Americas Cup competition on Thursday, dropping the locals to seventh in the final standings.
Eaglecrest High School junior-to-be Davis Bryant and his team finished the last round at the Guadalajara Country Club at 6-over-par, which ultimately cost them four spots in the team standings as several squads in the 18-team field of groups from 11 Western states, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico closed strong.
Bryant opened and closed his final round with birdies on his way to a 3-over-par 75, which brought him in with a three-day total of a 2-over 218. He finished 21st overall and a stroke behind teammate Cole Krantz, who totaled 217 to finish in 17th place individually.
Including Bryant, three Colorado players shot 1-under in Wednesday’s second round, but all four shot over par in the closing round. Krantz led the way with a 73 that allowed him to edge past Bryant for top honors for a Colorado team that finished at 6-over 654 for the tournament.
Bryant improved significantly from his 49th-place showing in the 2015 JAC tournament in Arizona, though he helped the Colorado team to third
Nine players in the tournament shot under par and six others were at even par, which was won as a team by a single stroke by Washington, which also had the individual medalist in Ryan Maine, who finished 8-under for the tournament to take the title by two strokes.
