JALISCO, MEXICO | Eaglecrest junior-to-be Davis Bryant got into the red numbers during the second round of the boys Junior Americas Cup golf tournament on Wednesday, helping the team from Colorado make a rise in the standings.
Bryant and teammates Jackson Solem and Cole Krantz all shot 1-under-par 71 at the Guadalajara Country Club as Colorado moved to 1-under for the tournament and climbed from ninth to fifth in the 18-time field of four-player teams from 11 Western states, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico.
The locals sit just one stroke out of a three-way tie for second place between teams from Utah, Washington and Mexico and five off the pace set by a squad from San Diego going into Thursday’s final round. Bryant and Solem also played on the Colorado team last season when it took third.
Bryant — who shot even par in the opening round — made an eagle on the par-5 Hole No. 1 and finished the front nine even, then made a birdie on the par-4 No. 16 to come in at 1-under. For the tournament, he is tied for seventh with players from Idaho, British Columbia and Mexico going into the final round in which he has a 9:54 a.m. MT tee time.
