Grandview has two alternates for the Sept. 29-30 5A state championship tournament at Colorado Springs Country Club, as Mason Jowsey and Matt McCartney each came up short in a playoff according to Wolves’ head coach Randy Smith.

Jowsey and McCartney each shot 9-over-par 81s to become part of a playoff and they will now have to wait to see if anybody withdraws from the state tournament so they can take that spot.

Sophomore Danny Taggart shot 83 and senior TJ Prochazka 85 for coach Randy Smith’s Wolves, who finished ninth as a team in the 13-team field.

Coach Brian Dossey’s Gateway team ended up in 13th, led by a 95 from junior Luke Hemphill. Junior Joseph Miller carded a 102 and freshman Saben Brooks checked in at 129 to round out the Olys’ scoring.

Lakewood and Doherty claimed the top two teams spots and the automatic berths, while Fairview’s Jackson Vacek took medalist honors with 2-under-par 72.
