MONTROSE | Sophomore Dawson Thulin is the new owner of the Vista PEAK boys golf program’s best-ever finish at a state tournament.

Thulin shot a 9-over par 80 Oct. 8 in the second round of the Class 4A boys state tournament at The Bridges Golf & Country Club that dropped him a bit in the standings after a strong opening round, but put him in a tie for 21st when all was said and done.

With a two-day total of plus-14 146, Thulin far surpassed the previous state-best finish, the 83rd of graduated Sha Jefferson in 2017.

Thulin’s scorecard for the second round shows an eagle on the par-5 Hole No. 10 — the same hole on which he had one of his four birdies in the opening round Oct. 7 — but no other birdies on the day.

Montrose dominated the final results as both the team champion and also had the individual winner in Micah Stangbye.
