Boys Golf: Shorthanded Regis Jesuit finishes second in Continental League opener

CENTENNIAL | Defending Class 5A state champion Regis Jesuit didn’t have its full lineup for Thursday’s season-opening Continental League boys golf tournament, but it still managed to finish second in the 12-team field.

Minus senior Chris Korte — one of three returning members of last season’s title winning team — the Raiders posted a team total of 303 on the par 72 South Suburban Golf Course to finish 11 strokes behind hot-starting Heritage.

The Eagles had the three lowest scores in the tournament in medalist Hunter Lee, who shot a 3-under 69, followed by Nick Leibold (72) and Reese Leiker (73). Right behind the Heritage group was Regis Jesuit senior Jake Kelley, who ended up in a three-way tie for fourth place with his 2-over 74.

Senior Spencer Painton and junior Jack Lazzeri — both coming off outstanding performances in tryouts — put up matching 75s for the Raiders.

Sophomore Bennett Rogers and senior Colton Jones filled the last two spots in the lineup for Regis Jesuit, carding rounds of 79 and 81, respectively.

The next Continental League tournament is scheduled for Aug. 12 at Castle Pines G.C.

Does anyone have results from yesterday’s tournament at Castle Pines for the Boys golf. (August 11, 2013, Continental League Tournament) The only school that posted its place was Douglas County in 5th. Specifically, interested in Highlands Ranch. Thanks so much.
