DENVER | It was the Regis Jesuit boys golf team’s turn to take a tight victory in Continental League tournament play.
The Raiders fell a single stroke short of Highlands Ranch in the first league tournament of the season at South Suburban Golf Course, but gained a measure of revenge with a two-stroke victory over the Falcons on Wednesday at Wellshire Golf Course.
Sparked by a 1-over-par 73 by senior ace Jack Lazzeri, coach Craig Rogers’ Regis Jesuit team posted a four-golfer total of 300 to hold off Highlands Ranch (302) and Mountain Vista (304).
Junior Andrew McCormick finished just a stroke back of Lazzeri with a 74, while fellow junior Bennett Rogers carded a 76 and senior Kevin Shafer added a 77 to round out the Raiders’ four scoring golfers.
Senior John Kane recorded an 81 in the other result for Regis Jesuit’s top five.
Lazzeri finished in fourth place individually, one strike behind the trio of Heritage’s Reese Leiker, Highlands Ranch’s Charlie Schneider and Rock Canyon’s Ryan Zetwick, who each carded 72s.
The next Continental League tournament is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 26 at Lone Tree Golf Course.
