AURORA | Rangeview is king of Springhill again.
The Raiders continued their roll in EMAC South boys golf tournaments at Springhill Golf Course on Friday, posting the five best scores on their way to a decisive victory in the season-opening meet.
Playing in the No. 2 position for Rangeview, junior Raymond Simanjuntak won the Springhill tournament for the second straight season with a total of 8-over-par 72. Teammates Jay Chamberlain and Evan Kennedy came next with 80s, Mitchell Claypool carded an 83 and Blake Haag’s 86 gave the Raiders a clean sweep of the top five positions.
Coach Merlin Johnson’s Rangeview team finished with a three-golfer total of 232 and won the tournament on the same course for the third consecutive season.
While Simanjuntak was one stroke better on the course than the previous season, Chamberlain improved by 20 shots, shaving the 100 he shot in 2013 down to 80 this season.
Junior Luke Hemphill paced second-place Gateway with a sixth-place score of 89, while William Rohr’s 92 placed him seventh individually for Hinkley, which finished in the fifth spot as a team. Sophomore R’Ron Fisher shot a 96 for Aurora Central, which edged Adams City by four strokes for third.
The North and South divisions of the EMAC get together for the first of two league majors at 11 a.m. Aug. 14 at Murphy Creek Golf Course. The cumulative result of the two major tournaments — the other is Sept. 4 — determines the final league standings for regional seeding purposes.
The next EMAC South meet is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 21 at Aurora Hills G.C.
