Rangeview sat fourth after the opening major at Aurora’s Murphy Creek Golf Course and coach Merlin Johnson’s team finished in an identical spot after both in Thursday’s tournament at Legacy Ridge Golf Course and in the overall standings.

Led by senior Mitchell Claypool and junior Raymond Simanjuntak, who each tied for second individually with 77s, the Raiders shot a team total of 254 to finish behind the three teams that also finished in front of them in the overall standings in the same order, Prairie View, Brighton and Northglenn/Thornton.

The fourth position 5A Central Regional scheduled for Sept. 15 at Green Valley Ranch Golf Course. Another city team, coach Larry Taylor’s Aurora Central group — which finished ninth in the second major and eighth overall — is also headed to that same state qualifying tournament.

Gateway finished fifth, two strokes in front of Westminster in the Legacy Ridge tournament, but the teams were flip-flopped in the final standings with the Olys in sixth and Wolves in fifth.

Coach Brian Dossey’s Gateway team — led by Luke Hemphill’s 96 and Joseph Miller’s 97 — is headed to the 5A Western Regional set for Sept. 15 at Raccoon Creek G.C. Second-place Brighton also represents the EMAC in that regional.

Hinkley didn’t have enough golfers to post a team score and assumes the No. 9 slot, which puts coach Andy Robinson’s Thunderbirds in the Northern Regional — which the EMAC is hosting — at Aurora’s Meadow Hills G.C. League champion Prairie View and fifth-place Westminster will also be in the field.
