2025 AURORA BOYS GOLF SEASON AT A GLANCE
Teams: Gateway is the lone Aurora boys golf program in the Class 4A classification, while Aurora Central, Cherokee Trail, Eaglecrest, Grandview, Overland, Rangeview, Regis Jesuit, Smoky Hill and Vista PEAK Prep compete in Class 5A.
Coaches: Aurora Central — James Laing; Cherokee Trail — Ryan Stevens; Eaglecrest— Stan Adams; Gateway — Brian Dossey; Grandview — Kurtis Bailey; Overland — Casey Coy; Rangeview — Jason Oulman; Regis Jesuit — Craig Rogers; Smoky Hill — Danny Hudson; Vista PEAK Prep — Colin DeGroot
Last year: Three four-player teams — Cherokee Trail, Grandview and Regis Jesuit — from the Aurora area qualified for the Class 5A state tournament along with two individuals from Smoky Hill and one from Eaglecrest. After two days of play at CommonGround G.C., the Cougars finished in second place, four strokes behind Centennial League rival Cherry Creek, while the Raiders were ninth and Wolves 11th. Two Aurora area golfers earned medals for individual top-10 finishes as Grandview senior Michael Rosman placed second and Cherokee Trail junior Dalton Sisneros tied for third. Full recap of last season’s Class 5A boys golf state tournament, here.
Regular season/postseason: The boys golf season begins Aug. 6 and competition continues through the last week of September. The postseason format has changed this season, as regional state qualifying tournaments have been eliminated and the top 84 players in each classification will advance to the state tournament based on rankings from play in a minimum of five regular season rounds. State tournaments are scheduled for Oct. 6-7 with Class 4A to be played at Fox Hill Club in Longmont and 5A at Bookcliff Golf Club in Grand Junction.
News and notes: Cherokee Trail tied for second place in the 2023 5A state tournament and finished alone in the runner-up spot last season. The Cougars expect to return three of the four players from both of those teams in seniors Brayden Forte and Dalton Sisneros and junior Anthony Chen. Forte has made it to the state tournament in all three of his seasons, while Sisneros and Chen have been twice. …The other returning 5A state qualifiers from the area are Eaglecrest senior Greg White (a three-time qualifier who finished 15th last season), Smoky Hill senior Hudson Roth, Smoky Hill junior Reece Nuwash, Grandview junior Dominik Fedotov and sophomore Sam Silver. …The Gateway boys golf team won last season’s Colorado League championship and had the league’s individual medalist in junior Cole Dossey.
