AURORA | Just minutes from missing the Class 5A state football playoffs, Eaglecrest has made the most of it once it got in.

The 22nd-seeded Raptors posted their second upset of the 5A postseason on Saturday, chopping down No. 6 Chaparral 14-13 on a frigid day at Legacy Stadium.

Greyson Hoffman rushed for 121 yards and what proved to be the winning touchdown in the second quarter and a blocked extra point proved to be the difference as Eaglecrest — which knocked off No. 11 Chatfield in the first round — moved into an all-Aurora 5A quarterfinal matchup against rival and third-seeded Cherokee Trail.

The Wolverines were ranked No. 1 in the state midway through the season, but suffered their second loss in the last four games of the season and finished 8-3 overall.
