Football: Championship press conference set for Sports Authority Field at Mile High

AURORA | Cherokee Trail football coach Monte Thelen and a few of his team members will get their look at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Wednesday during a press conference ahead of championship weekend.

Members of the Cougars and their opponent in Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. Class 5A state state championship game — Valor Christian — will be on hand at the Denver Broncos stadium to talk about the upcoming game at a press conference moderated by Drew Goodman of ROOT Sports.

Thelen, who has 12-1 Cherokee Trail in its first championship game and Eagles coach Brent Vieselmeyer — whose team is going for a fourth consecutive state title — will speak, along with the coaches in the 4A title game, Phil Bravo of Monarch and Denver South’s Tony Lindsay Sr.

The Cougars, who took down Ralston Valley 17-10 on Nov. 17 for their first semifinal victory, will play in the big venue for the first time, while the Eagles (11-2) have hoisted the 4A state championship trophy on the field for the past two seasons after winning the 3A title in 2009 at Legacy Stadium, Cherokee Trail’s home field.
